Authenticity
Proof of Authenticity for Apparel and Limited Runs
An NFC tag can show a shopper whether the tag on the piece they're holding has been scanned before — useful for limited runs and resale, but it's not the same as proving the product itself is real.

An NFC tag on a garment can do two things worth separating: show the shopper an authenticity and warranty section the brand wrote themselves, with a registration link, and automatically flag whether this is the tag's first scan or a repeat. Both are useful for limited runs and resale. Neither one proves the garment itself is genuine — that distinction matters, and it's worth being precise about it before using the words "proof of authenticity" with a customer.
What the first-scan check actually tells you
Each NFC tag has a unique code, and its first tap is recorded with the date. Tap it again — a second owner checking a resale piece, or someone who copied the tag's code — and the page shows it's already been scanned, with the count and the date of that first scan. What this catches: a code that's been scanned more than once, which is exactly what happens if a tag gets cloned or a resale buyer wants to confirm they're the first to check it.
What it doesn't catch: a counterfeit garment with its own legitimate, never-before-scanned NFC tag. The check verifies the tag's scan history, not the garment it's attached to. "First scan" means the first recorded scan of that code, not a factory-verified authentic product.
The brand-authored part
Separately, the page itself can carry an authenticity and warranty section the brand writes — a statement, badges, and a registration link for the owner to claim the piece. This is where a limited run's story, materials, or serial information actually lives; the first-scan check is a technical signal underneath it, not the whole story.
The authenticity section is a Scale-plan feature. The first-scan check runs on any NFC tag regardless of plan, since it's a property of the tag itself, not the page.
Both pieces are available on the benefits page.
